About the Homeowner:

Nicole knows what it takes to achieve her goals.  Her proudest accomplishment is going back to school to get her GED, and then continuing on to college.  Now, as a Patient Access Representative with VCU Health Systems, Nicole finally feels ready to achieve her dream of homeownership.

A single-mother of two children, Nicole wants to show her children that anything is possible if you work hard.

Currently, the Smith’s live in a small apartment where they constantly hear noise from their surrounding neighbors.  Nicole grew up in public housing and is excited to finally experience the serenity of having a quiet home she can call her own.

Now Nicole is completing ten educational classes offered through our Homeowner Services Department and is completing 350 “sweat equity” hours, volunteering to build her home and support other Habitat projects. Once her home is completed, she will purchase her home and pay an affordable, 0% interest mortgage, making her dream of homeownership a reality.

Nicole is especially excited to learn new construction skills that she can use to maintain her home.  She and her son cannot wait to spend Saturdays on the build sites together.

“I just really want to say thank you for this opportunity and thank you so much for helping me complete another one of my goals in life.  This will show my children that anything is possible - just work hard and your dreams will come true!” - Nicole Smith, Future Homeowner
