Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity - Mission Statement

Seeking to put God's love into action, Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Habitat for Humanity was created to demonstrate the love of God in action, so it is it natural that faith communities are a primary partner in Habitat's work.  These partnerships are essential in grounding the work of Richmond Habitat in our mission of hope and uplifting the ministry of Habitat in prayer.  Successful Habitat for Humanity affiliates are the ones with the support of faith communities.  They have proven to be our most reliable and long-term partners.  We look forward to having you and your faith community involved in any way that fulfills your mission.

What We Do

Connecting to the Mission

At Richmond Habitat, we have many ways that your community can help us fulfill our mission!  Below are several opportunities.

CONSTRUCTION

Our hallmark volunteer engagement comes in assisting us in building, repairing and rehabbing homes for those in need.  No experience is required. We build throughout the year on multiple sites.  Our build days are usually Thursdays, Friday and Saturdays with volunteers working an seven-hour shift with a lunch break. We need groups of all sizes.  Faith groups have also volunteered to provide lunches to construction crews.

RESTORES

Our stores are open Tuesdays through Saturdays with constant need for volunteers to assist with donation intake, cleaning, assistance with displays, customer service, and more. Volunteers typically serve a four-hour sift.  Groups can also collect items for donation to the ReStores.

WELCOME HOME BASKETS

Faith communities can collect items for new homeowners that will be placed in a basket and given at their home dedication.  Richmond Habitat will provide a list of suggested items for collection.  All items on the list do not have to be provided.  Faith groups often attend the dedication to present the basket to the homeowner.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Throughout the year, there are unique opportunities to support Richmond Habitat by volunteering at special events.  In the past, these have included the Virginia Wine Expo, Concessions at VCU home basketball games and the Richmond Greek Festival. Watch the Special Events programs page of our website for updated listings.
